Prit-ty, Prit-ty

Cerulean blue skies,

Crisp, fresh air,

Nature’s musicians twittering

As I climb the apartment staircase.

Mid-step, I stop . . . listen . . .

Brit-ney, brit-ney,

Britney?

Silence my steps,

Turn towards the sounds,

Hold my breath,

Listen . . .

Prit-ty, prit-ty!

Who me?

Why thank you!

  1. NO! Shoot, I was going to start with that opening. What a vivid, pretty picture! “Nature… twittering” ❤️ but then BAM, you just blindsided me. Those birds have been taunting me my whole life! Silly sometimes and just a cacophony of mocking when I’m trying to sleep! I don’t think I’ve ever heard or read someone else thinking they were calling “Brit-ney” (or Brittany as I would spell it, subjectively) too! Oh Elsie, you crack me up. I’m so glad to be slicing again with you!

I enjoyed the the listening within this piece. There’s so much to invite us to stop and listen – thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I love listening to the birds chatter and sing and then add in the cows in the back yard. A litany of music serenading us each day.

  4. “Nature’s musicians twittering” Love hearing these musicians in the early morning. Makes for a pleasant start to the day. Love your poem.

  5. Delightful. Love this poem about noticing. I stepped out on my back porch this morning while it was still dark. I think it was too dark and cold for twittering. I did hear the hoarse caws of some crows though.

  6. Reminding me to slow down and look, listen, write. Beautiful piece, Elsie. Love bird songs. A tiny and precious moment in time captured with the right rhythm. Really nice, Elsie!

  7. I love this! Isn’t it great when we take the time to notice what’s happening around us? It gives new perspective. Makes me think of the saying, “Take time to stop and smell the roses.” Hmm…maybe the person who first said that was a writer?

  8. A brilliant poem! As a bird lover, I especially appreciate how you captured the sounds and that “cerulean” blue sky. Your talents are many…I hope to see more of your poetry.

You are beautiful on the inside and “Prit-ty” on the outside! Thanks to the birds (and you) for sharing with us.
